Laguna de los Tres
The town's signature trek: ascent to the viewpoint facing Fitz Roy. The final stretch is steep; the reward is the view of the glacier and the spires.
- Full day (8–10 h round trip from town)
- Start early; bring food, water and warm layers
- If winds are strong at the lagoon, rescheduling is advisable

Questions about travelling to El Chaltén
- When is the best time to visit El Chaltén?
- From October to April there are more services and accessible trails. January and February are the busiest months. In winter there is less accommodation and experience with cold and snow is required.
- Do I need a guide for Laguna de los Tres?
- It is not compulsory: the trail is marked and many people hike it independently. We do recommend leaving early, bringing warm layers and food. If you'd prefer to go with a guide, we can pass on local options.
